Policy relevance of the results and the innovation of the research effort
The objectives are to evaluate results from the 2006 Statistics Canada (STC) Farm Environmental Management Survey (FEMS), compare rates of adoption of various environmental best management practices across provinces, and identify reasons for interprovincial variation including differences in regulation, environmental programs, use of an environmental farm plan and other characteristics such as enterprise type and net farm income. Research results will help policy makers in Agriculture and Agri-food Canada (AAFC) with the development of the next round of Growing Forward policies, which is currently underway.
Deliverables
The requested amount will be fully allocated to Hossein as a student funding (no UBC overhead). AAFC will provide in-kind support by helping Hossein access the survey data. Professor Vercammen and graduate student Hossein will provide LEARN with a report that summarizes findings to date by March 31, 2012.
